Greats from the Romantic era

Born in Moscow in 1973, Alexander Melnikov was raised amongst some of the finest instrumentalist of his age. This title can also be bestowed upon him, having won many international awards and praise. This concert delves into the Romantic era, offering three works that demonstrate the variety of style within piano composition at the time. First we hear Frédéric Chopin’s 24 Preludes Op. 28. This itself is a demonstration of the length and breadth of Chopin’s composing. Following that is Alexandre Scriabine’s Fantasy in B minor Op. 28, a late-Romantic piece of great boldness. Finally, Serge Prokofiev’s Sonata No. 6 in A Major Op. 82 rounds of this concert, demonstrating a lesser-known side of Romantic composing. It features atonal melodies over crashing chords. Explore the realms of Romantic music with Alexander Melnikov.
