Four works for strings and piano brilliantly interpreted.

Writing for strings and piano has been the favourite compositional form of many composers throughout the ages. It provides the ability to form complex melodies on one or more of the instruments while the others harmonise and provide grounding, while never overcrowding the instrument holding the melody. This concert at the Musée d’Orsay presents four wonderful works for strings and piano. One can hear the love that each of the composers has for their work. First we hear Charles Dancla: Small Symphony Concertante for two violins and piano. Second is an Impromptu for Cello and String Quartet in D Major by Louis Théodore Gouvy. Henri Vieuxtemps’s Elegy for Viola and Piano is heard next. Finally, Gabriel Fauré’s String quartet for Piano and String Trio in C minor closes the concert. Appreciate the wonderful combination of strings and piano in the artistic setting of one of Paris’ stellar museums.
