Classical, Impressionist and Modern works
The three works in this concert by the National Orchestra of Lyon are from three different eras - Classical, Impressionist and Modern. Being sandwiched between Debussy and Beethoven would be an honour for any composer throughout time, but to be matched with them as a modern composer (and one who is still alive!) is even more impressive.
Guillaume Connesson is this composer and his Clarinet Concerto is the work that sits between Claude Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun L 86 and Ludwig Van Beethoven Symphony No. 6 in F Major Op. 68 “Pastoral”. Connesson’s work is somewhat avant-garde in comparison to the other works, however, it uses interesting playing techniques on the cello, embellished by crashes and thumps of percussion. Enjoy these contrasting works performed by one of the premier French orchestras.
