Closing concert of the 2017 Festival

The accordion is an incredibly versatile instrument. Featured in folk music from around the world and in many other genres. Despite this, it is rarely featured in concerts. Thankfully, this is one of those rare concerts where the accordion takes centre stage and shows off its wide-ranging sound.

The first piece is Astor Piazzolla’s Piece for Double Bass, Accordion, Piano and Violin - a work which encapsulates Piazzolla’s unmistakeable skill at tango writing. Next we hear César Franck’s Quintet for Piano and Strings in F Minor. Following this, we hear and excerpt from Ernest Bloch’s work From Jewish Life called Prayer. Following this, we hear François Borne’s Fantasy Brilliante on Carmen with Emmanuel Pahud on flute and Élodie Soulard on accordion. Finally, Antonin Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 12 in F Major Op. 96 B 179 “American" rounds off the concert. Take a seat and enjoy the wonderful versatility of the accordion.
