An eclectic mix of works for piano

This concert has something for everyone. From the virtuoso performances of works by Franz Liszt and Scriabine, to the Impressionist wonders of Ravel and then the modern works of Harvey and Neuburger, variance is aplenty.

The first and second works of the concert are by Liszt: opening with an excerpt from Liszt’s Years of Pilgrimage, 3rd Year S.163, which tells the story of a man on a pilgrimage of betterment, though it is evident his patience is wearing. Second, we hear Solemn March of the Holy Grail from Parsifal for Piano. Next we hear Poème-Nocturne Op. 61 by Alexandre Scriabine, followed by Gaspard de la Nuit by Maurice Ravel. The fifth work is Vingt regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus by Olivier Messiaen, which ends the classical part of the concert.

Two modern works are heard next. Jonathan Harvey’s Tombeau de Messiaen first, followed by the closing piece by Jean-Frédéric Neuburger: Vitrail à l’Homme sans yeux. This mix of music of classic and modern will certainly sate your musical desires.
