Maison de la Radio, Paris

Conducted by Emmanuel Krivine, the Orchestre National de France performs the Overture & Bacchanale from "Tannhäuser", the Siegfried-Idyll, Prélude und Liebestod from "Tristan und Isolde", and the Wesendonck-Lieder by Wagner, with Anne Petersen. Concert performed live on 23 May at Radio France.

Wagner scattered orchestral passages throughout his operas that have since often been performed seperately in concert. Here, Emmanuel Krivine focuses upon those that celebrate the feeling of love, sensuality, and birth. At the heart of this programme, the Wesendonck-Lieder, an expression of an artist's impossible passion for an inaccessible woman.
