Amphithéâtre, Philharmonie, Paris

A delicate and rare delight.

Works for piano and clarinet are few and far between. While there is a not insignificant body of work from across time, there is nowhere near the amount that strings and horns are able to enjoy. This concert collates four exceptional works featuring solo clarinet, three with piano, one with orchestra. Clarinettist Horácio Ferreira on clarinet and pianist Dávid Bekker first perform Johannes Brahms’ Sonata for clarinet and piano No. 1 in F minor Op. 120, a work which is influenced by Scottish folk music. Second, we hear the orchestral work: Kimmo Hakola's Clarinet Concerto Op. 94. Third, Georges Bizet’s famous Carmen Fantasy for clarinet and piano is played. Francis Poulenc’s Sonata for clarinet and piano FP 184 (excerpt): 3. Allegro con fuoco brings the concert to an impressive conclusion. No strings allowed in this concert! Enjoy the unappreciated sounds of the clarinet!
