Classics from the impressionist and romantic eras
As part of the Festival Mozart en Loire-Layon 2017, the Debussy Quartet perform a special concert of Shostakovich, Beethoven and Ravel at the Chateau de la Fresnaye. The Debussy Quartet have been world-class performers for over twenty five years, for which time they have always upheld their motto of being “ouverte, vivante et créative!” (open, lively and creative!).
The concert begins with Shostakovich’s Elegy for String Quartetin F Sharp Minor Op.144. Then we hear Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Minor, also known as the “Serioso” quartet. After, we hear Shostakovich’s String Quartet No.7 op.108, written in memory of his deceased wife. The concert closes with Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major, a tribute to a string quartet work by Debussy. Debussy certainly would have been thrilled to hear this work inspired by his music and performed by a quartet in his name!
