Hugo Reyne

French flutist and oboe player (born in Paris in 1961)

Hugo Reyne is a French flutist and oboe player who trained with the leaders of the French baroque movement. He directs today the Simphonie du Marais with which he did a remarkable work and brought the lights back on the French musical heritage.

Hugo Reyne started to study the recorder and then the oboe at a very young age. Winner of many national competitions, he won the Concours international de flûte à bec in Hurtebise and the MAfestival Brugge in chamber music. In the 1980's, Hugo Reyne watched closely the baroque movement and played with its leaders, such as Frans Brüggen, William Christie, Philippe Herreweghe, Gustav Leonhardt or Jordi Savall before he founded his own ensemble in 1987, the Simphonie du Marais.

Hugo Reyne cares a great deal about transmitting and raising awareness of music among the young population: he teaches in many institutions and trains the new generation of performers with his ensemble.

Hugo Reyne also dedicates a lot of his time to musicological research and to publish ancient partitions. He owns an important collection of ancient instruments. For his work on the French musical heritage, he was rewarded in 2008 by the Ministère de la Culture with the title of Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres and then with the title of Officier in 2012.

He is the artistic director of the festival Musique at la Chabotterie and of the baroque festival of the Pays du Mont-Blanc.
