As a child, I wanted to be a singer, then I thought of becoming an athlete , then priest. Eventually I am a singer and that job combines all the other ones.
He started to learn the piano at the age of 9 and then joined the Conservatoire of Athens to study singing, composition and orchestra conducting. He perfected his training in Italy in Cremona with Aldo Protti, a baritone specialized in Verdi's pieces. In 1995, he won his first mention at the Maria Callas competition, allowing him to join the ensemble of the Greek National Opera from 1995 to 1999.
During that period, he mastered the Bel Canto repertoire (Donizetti, Rossini) and notably Verdi, that he developed later in Germany, in Dusseldorf, in the ensemble Deutsche Oper am Rhein. At the end of his contract, tired by his work within the ensemble and without any prospect for his future, he was at the verge of quitting singing. However, he had a fortunate event when he met the singer René Massis who opened to Christoyannis the doors of the French lyrical world. He sang in Montpellier in 2008, playing the role of Alphonse XI in La Favorite.
From that moment, he started to perform as a soloist, at the Glyndebourne festival and on the great European stages, the Opéra de Paris, in Vienna, at the Théâtre de la Monnaie, at the Grand Théâtre de Genève. He regularly sings in his natal country and often on the French stages.
His favorite parts are Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Posa and Rodrigo in Don Carlos, Germont in La Traviata, Marcello in La bohème.
For the past few years, he has enjoyed offering his talents in forgotten works of the French repertoire (Cinq-Mars of Gounod, Les fêtes de l’hymen et de l’amour of Rameau, La caravane du Caire of Grétry, Ali-Baba of Lecocq).
He also sings in recitals and formed a duo with Greek pianist Thanassi Apostolopoulos with whom he recorded in 2013 as a world premiere melodies of Félicien David, unknown for the most part.
