Tedi Papavrami

French of Lebanese descent violinist, writer and contemporary translator (born in 1971)

Born in an isolated Albania, out of time and in the grip of the Stalinist regime of Enver Hodja, Tedi Papavrami started to play the violin when he was four, following the rigor demanded by the "Papavrami method" principles established by his father, a violinist and a teacher.

He was noticed in his natal country by the flutist Alain Marion and received the authorization to leave for a while the "most shut country on Earth" and crossed the Iron Curtain to go to France. Later, he entered the Paris Conservatoire where he followed the class of Pierre Amoyal. Despite the Albanian injonctions and the threats to his family, Tedi Papavrami stayed in France and found shelter with his parents in Bordeaux where a violinist took him under her wings. Thanks to her, he discovered an impressive discographic collection and met the violinist Issac Stern. Acclaimed as a soloist and a chamber musician, he carries on his work in Switzerland and also teaches violin at the Haut conservatoire de Genève

Among his model musicians, Tedi Papavrami names Horowitz, especially in the sonatas of Scarlatti. Influenced by two cultures, Tedi Papavrami is an expert of translation and translated, among others, the famous Ismail Kadaré.
