Xavier De Maistre

French harpist (Toulon, 1973 - )

Xavier de Maistre is a French harpist who performs as a soloist and with orchestras all over the world.

Xavier de Maistre begins playing the harp at the Toulon Conservatory with Vassilia Briano. He perfects his skills in Paris with Jacqueline Borot and Catherine Michel while studying in parallel at Sciences Po, before attending the London School of Economics.

In 1998, he wins three prizes (including the first prize) at the prestigious USA International Harp Competition, and is accepted the same year at the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, where he is the first French musician. His career brings him to work with great conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Riccardo Muti, Philippe Jordan... He performs with many orchestras, including the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, the Konzerthausorchester in Berlin, and the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also invited by prestigious festivals (Salzburg, Verbier, Budapest...).

Xavier de Maistre teaches in Hamburg and regularly gives masterclasses in New York, Tokyo and London. His first recording with the Sony Music label in 2008 is dedicated to Debussy. Dedicated to the valorisation of the harp as an instrument, Xavier de Maistre has interpreted works of diverse genres, from Haydn to Granados, working from his own transcriptions.
